bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 4bc0837867 Fix #221: Effect > Pathfinder works on several selected objects
Choosing an Effect > Pathfinder item (Add, Intersect, Exclude, Subtract...)
with several loose objects selected now groups them and applies the live
effect to the group, in one undo step, so the result shows at once and stays
editable. A selection that already holds a group, or a single object, works
as before, and agents get `grouped: true` back when it happens.

Root cause: Pathfinder effects combine the contents of a group or layer.
Applied to loose objects, each one got an effect with nothing to combine, so
nothing visibly changed, while the Pathfinder panel's commands (found by the
command search) act on the selection directly.

Fix #177: DXF Fit and Aligned text span their two points
2026-10-07 02:20:43 +07:00
bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 82be706b94 Fix #177: DXF Fit and Aligned text span their two points
DXF text justified Fit now keeps its height and stretches or squeezes
horizontally to run exactly from its first point to its second; Aligned
text scales as a whole, height included, to do the same, its width factor
kept. Attributes justified the same way follow suit. Without a second point,
or with both points the same, the text keeps its size as before.

Root cause: the importer took the angle of the two points and anchored the
text at the first, but kept the text's height and width factor, ignoring the
distance between the points. The text now records that span and, when it
becomes a text object, is measured in the font it is set in, then given the
horizontal scale (Fit) or size (Aligned) that makes it end at the second
point, kept between 1% and 10,000% of its natural length. The import's
bounds estimate uses the same scale.

Fix #206: Live Paint treats every path as an edge, open lines included
2026-10-07 02:14:17 +07:00
bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 700b6786c4 Fix #206: Live Paint treats every path as an edge, open lines included
The Live Paint Bucket now fills areas enclosed by any paths. Crossing
lines enclose faces it can fill, a line across a shape splits that shape's
face in two, and an area enclosed by paths becomes a face even when nothing
fills it (it starts unfilled). Edges are the paths cut wherever another path
meets them, keeping their stroke, so Shift-click paints each piece. Closed
shapes give the same faces as before.

Root cause: Live Paint built its faces from the Pathfinder regions, which
divide the filled areas of closed shapes. An open path counted only as the
area it would fill if closed, which for a straight line is nothing, so lines
divided nothing and the bucket found no face to fill. A new planar map in
vectorcraft-pathops (live_paint) sweeps every path as an edge: an open path
goes in traced there and back, with crossing counts that never cancel; faces
are walked on the resulting graph (holes included), and their fills and the
edges' sources are found geometrically. The sweep runs in an exactly sheared
frame, because it mishandles a horizontal line traced there and back.
Make, Merge, the bucket and Live Paint Selection all use it;
interior_point moves to vectorcraft-pathops with it.

Brandon ThomasandClaude Opus 5.5 546a65f77a Fonts: use craft-fonts as an optional build input; move the Japanese fonts out
Shippori Mincho (assets/fonts, from #145) moves to storytold/craft-fonts. crates/text/build.rs
embeds the fonts of a craft-fonts checkout when CRAFT_FONTS_DIR is set (web: BIZ UDPGothic
Regular only) as vectorcraft_text::CRAFT_FONTS; unset, it is empty and Japanese falls back to the
installed fonts. Document text gets the Japanese faces after the bundled fonts (Mincho first); the
UI adds them at the end of every egui family (BIZ UDPGothic first), before ui_fonts' system-font
discovery. Release and FreeBSD CI builds check craft-fonts out at a pinned commit; packages carry
the fonts' OFL texts.

Brandon ThomasandClaude Opus 5.5 ceb6defcf3 Windows on ARM64: release builds, PE header check, install test on ARM64 hardware
Release builds add an arm64 MSI and portable zip, cross-compiled on the x64
runner (signing and WiX as for x64). package.ps1 checks each binary's PE
header before packaging: Machine must match -Arch, the app must be a GUI
program and the CLI a console program. It skips the CLI smoke run when an
ARM64 build can't run on the host. A new Windows ARM64 workflow packages the
ARM64 MSI, installs it on a Windows 11 ARM64 runner, checks both installed
exes are ARM64, runs the CLI, and uninstalls. Ported from printcraft#66.

Vertical Type, Vertical Area Type and Vertical Type on a Path create vertical text (columns right to left, upright CJK glyphs with `vert`/`vrt2` alternates); Type ▸ Type Orientation switches existing text; caret, selection, hit testing and arrow keys follow the writing direction. The Swatches panel selects ranges and whole groups, has a find field, and drags swatches to reorder, regroup or paint art; Add Used Colors, Select All Unused, Merge, Ungroup and Sort by Kind; a CMYK document keeps applied colours in CMYK. Swatch libraries: nine generated colour libraries and five gradient libraries in a library panel, saved and loaded as `.vcswatches`, `.gpl` or CSS. Tints of global and spot colours ("Name 40%") stay linked and separate as a percentage of their plate. Spot colours can be defined in Lab (Spot Colors options). A built-in [Registration] swatch prints on every plate.

The Color Guide has 21 harmony rules, Steps and Variation options and Limit to Library. Recolor Artwork has colour reduction, five recolour methods, presets, Limit to Library, a colour-wheel Edit tab and Edit Color Group; a local Color Themes panel saves five-colour themes. Fill/Stroke chips open swatch and mixer popovers, panels have their shortcuts, and Eyedropper Options pick up and apply chosen attributes (Alt and Shift+Alt, image pixels). SIL OPEN FONT LICENSE Version 1.1 - 26 February 2007
-----------------------------------------------------------
PREAMBLE
The goals of the Open Font License (OFL) are to stimulate worldwide
development of collaborative font projects, to support the font creation
efforts of academic and linguistic communities, and to provide a free and
open framework in which fonts may be shared and improved in partnership
with others.
The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and
redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. The
fonts, including any derivative works, can be bundled, embedded,
redistributed and/or sold with any software provided that any reserved
names are not used by derivative works. The fonts and derivatives,
however, cannot be released under any other type of license. The
requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply
to any document created using the fonts or their derivatives.
DEFINITIONS
"Font Software" refers to the set of files released by the Copyright
Holder(s) under this license and clearly marked as such. This may
include source files, build scripts and documentation.
"Reserved Font Name" refers to any names specified as such after the
copyright statement(s).
"Original Version" refers to the collection of Font Software components as
distributed by the Copyright Holder(s).
"Modified Version" refers to any derivative made by adding to, deleting,
or substituting -- in part or in whole -- any of the components of the
Original Version, by changing formats or by porting the Font Software to a
new environment.
"Author" refers to any designer, engineer, programmer, technical
writer or other person who contributed to the Font Software.
PERMISSION & CONDITIONS

Software, subject to the following conditions:
1) Neither the Font Software nor any of its individual components,
in Original or Modified Versions, may be sold by itself.
2) Original or Modified Versions of the Font Software may be bundled,
redistributed and/or sold with any software, provided that each copy
contains the above copyright notice and this license. These can be
included either as stand-alone text files, human-readable headers or
in the appropriate machine-readable metadata fields within text or
binary files as long as those fields can be easily viewed by the user.
3) No Modified Version of the Font Software may use the Reserved Font
Name(s) unless explicit written permission is granted by the corresponding
Copyright Holder. This restriction only applies to the primary font name as
presented to the users.
4) The name(s) of the Copyright Holder(s) or the Author(s) of the Font
Software shall not be used to promote, endorse or advertise any
Modified Version, except to acknowledge the contribution(s) of the
Copyright Holder(s) and the Author(s) or with their explicit written
permission.
5) The Font Software, modified or unmodified, in part or in whole,
must be distributed entirely under this license, and must not be
distributed under any other license. The requirement for fonts to
remain under this license does not apply to any document created
using the Font Software.

//! Live Paint planar maps: the faces and edges a set of paths divides the plane into.
//!
//! Unlike Pathfinder [`regions`](crate::regions), which splits the *filled areas* of closed shapes,
//! every path here is an edge, open ones included: three crossing lines enclose a triangle, a line
//! across a rectangle splits it in two, and an area enclosed by paths is a face whether or not
//! anything fills it.
//!
//! The sweep (`linesweeper`) only takes closed paths, so an open path goes in traced there and
//! back. Its two passes would cancel out as winding numbers, so the sweep counts boundary crossings
//! instead ([`Crossings`]), which never cancel. Faces are then walked on the planar graph of the
//! sweep's output segments; which inputs an edge came from and which fills cover a face are found
//! geometrically (the sweep's winding numbers can't be trusted once open paths and coincident
//! edges are in).
//!
//! The sweep runs in a sheared frame ([`SHEAR`]): it merges the two passes of a *horizontal* open
//! path as if they cancelled out, and in the sheared frame no edge drawn at a common angle (0°,
//! 45°, 90°…) is horizontal. The shear is by a power of two, so it maps typical coordinates
//! exactly and keeps exact coincidences (a corner on another shape's edge) exact.

## Fonts: craft-fonts (optional build input)
Font files are never committed to this repository. Fonts shared by the Crafting Apps live in
[storytold/craft-fonts](https://github.com/storytold/craft-fonts); the rules are in craftrules
[`standards/fonts.md`](https://github.com/storytold/craftrules/blob/main/standards/fonts.md). To add
a font, add it there. (The Latin fonts in `assets/fonts/` predate the rule and stay.)
VectorCraft builds, tests and runs without craft-fonts. To embed its Japanese fonts (BIZ UDPGothic
for UI text, Shippori Mincho and BIZ UDMincho for document text), point the `CRAFT_FONTS_DIR` build
option at a checkout:
```sh
git clone https://github.com/storytold/craft-fonts ../craft-fonts
CRAFT_FONTS_DIR="$PWD/../craft-fonts" cargo run --release -p vectorcraft
CRAFT_FONTS_DIR="$PWD/../craft-fonts" cargo xtask ci # also runs the Japanese-glyph tests
```
- `crates/text/build.rs` reads the checkout's `fonts/manifest.txt` and embeds every font it lists as
`vectorcraft_text::CRAFT_FONTS` (empty without `CRAFT_FONTS_DIR`). Give it an absolute path:
build scripts run in the crate's directory (a relative path is taken from the workspace root
as a convenience, but CI and the docs always use absolute paths). Nothing is downloaded, and
craft-fonts is never a `Cargo.toml` dependency. A bad path is a build warning, or an error with
`CRAFT_FONTS_REQUIRED=1` (release builds).
- Web (wasm32) builds embed only BIZ UDPGothic Regular (+4.7 MB of `.wasm`), to stay well under
static hosts' per-file limits (Cloudflare Pages: 25 MiB). Shippori Mincho, which this repo used to
embed everywhere, was 8.7 MB, so the web build is still smaller than before.
- Document text: the Japanese faces join the font database after the bundled fonts (Mincho first),
so they are the fallback for Japanese after the requested font; installed system fonts come after.
- UI: `theme::install_fonts` adds them at the end of every egui family (BIZ UDPGothic first), after
the UI fonts and before the installed fonts `ui_fonts.rs` discovers for other scripts.
- Tests that need Japanese glyphs skip with a message when built without craft-fonts. The FreeBSD
CI job and every release job (`release.yml`) check craft-fonts out at a pinned commit; release
packages carry each embedded font's `OFL-<family>.txt`.
## Vendor names gate
`cargo xtask brands` (part of `cargo xtask ci`) fails when user-visible text names another vendor's products or company: string literals in Rust sources (command labels and params docs, menus, panels, MCP tool definitions), `Cargo.toml` descriptions and packaging files. Comments and test code are not checked. Say "the reference app" or name the feature itself. A line that must keep an old name, such as an alias that files or preferences from earlier versions still use, carries a `brand-ok` comment.

| `pathfinder` | `{operation, ids?}` | `unite`, `minusFront`, `intersect`, `exclude`, `divide`, `trim`, `merge`, `crop`, `outline`, `minusBack`. For a live version, apply the `pathfinder.*` effect to a group. |
| `pathfinder` | `{operation, ids?}` | `unite`, `minusFront`, `intersect`, `exclude`, `divide`, `trim`, `merge`, `crop`, `outline`, `minusBack`. For a live version, apply the `pathfinder.*` effect to a group (`effect.apply` groups several loose selected objects first). |
| `transform` | `{ids?, dx?, dy?, rotate?, scale?, scaleX?, scaleY?, reflect?, shear?, origin?, copy?}` | Runs move, rotate, scale, reflect, shear in that order. With `copy`, the first step duplicates. |
| `create_graph` | `{type?, x, y, width, height, csv? \| series?, categories?, rows?}` | The nine Illustrator graph types: column, stacked column, bar, stacked bar, line, area, scatter, pie and radar. Edit later with `graph.setData` / `graph.setType` via `run_command`. |
| `text_wrap` | `{ids?, offset?, invert?, release?}` | Area type below the objects (same layer) flows around them. |
