bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 262caec2d6 Fix #505: Illustrator EPS type with drop shadows and glows opens as vectors
Text effects from stock sites are Illustrator EPS with live type whose
appearance (several fills and strokes, offset paths, drop shadows, glows) is
flattened into many small images and clipped type. Made here with
Illustrator 2026 (graphic styles and live effects on type, live and
outlined, formats 2026, CS6, 10 and 8), every one fell back to its preview:

- Illustrator's procsets keep their own graphics-state stack in a
dictionary, count each `save` in it and raise `limitcheck` at 64, relying
on `restore` to put the count back. `restore` didn't undo dictionary
changes, so a file with more than 64 images (each drawn in a save)
stopped. Now `restore` puts dictionaries back as they were at the `save`,
as restoring virtual memory does: while a save is open, `def`, `store`,
`put`, `undef` and dictionary `copy` keep the old value in a journal
(counted against the memory budget), undone newest first. A save that was
restored already (or through an outer one) can't be restored again
  (`invalidrestore`).
- The Illustrator 8 format's pattern fills divide by the font cache's
largest glyph (`cachestatus`), which was 0: it now reports a printer's
  sizes.
- Type in Illustrator's reencoded font copies (`/Impact*1`) was set in the
fallback font: the `*1` suffix is dropped when the family is looked up.

The images of those effects also came in banded on main; that is #498's
fix, which this builds on.

Tests: 100 saves counted in a dictionary and restored, every dictionary
change undone, saves restored twice, `cachestatus`, reencoded font names.
The import fuzz vocabulary has saves and restores around dictionary
changes. The generated files (not committed) now open with no warnings and
look like their previews; the Illustrator 8-format ones draw what their
PostScript holds (that format writes effects as opaque rasters).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 a303add775 Fix #498: EPS colour images whose inks are read in turn aren't banded
Illustrator CS and later write a colour image (in their own and in every
CS-to-CC compatibility format) with one data source per ink: four
procedures that each read one row of their ink from the same file, as
`image` calls them in turn (C, M, Y, K, C, M, Y, K …). The reader drained
each source on its own, so the cyan plane took the first rows of all four
inks and the image came in as sheared horizontal bands (the map in #498).

- Image data sources are read in turn: a procedure once a round, a file or
string a row a round, until each plane is full or its source ends.
Single sources, filters over procedures and masked images share the same
reader (`read_sources`); a string source starts each round where it left
off without walking it from its start.
- Tests: CMYK procedures reading one file (dictionary form) and RGB ones
(`colorimage` operand form), separate string sources, rows padded to a
byte at 1, 2, 4, 12 and 16 bits with an odd width (one and several
sources), PNG predictors of every row filter at an odd width. The first
fails without the fix; the others pin down the stride rules the report
suggested. The import fuzz vocabulary has several sources reading one
file and sources of uneven lengths.
- Checked against EPS saved here by Illustrator 2026 with an embedded
1001 × 667 RGB raster (and grey and RGBA ones, in RGB and CMYK
  documents, compatibility formats 3, 8, 10, CS6 and 2026): the 10, CS6 and
2026 ones came in banded and now match the source image; those files
  aren't committed.

The desktop app writes its warnings and errors (graphics adapter, a lost graphics device, panics the guard recovered from) to standard error and to `logs/vectorcraft.log` next to the preferences, the two previous runs kept and each file capped at 16 MiB, so a launch without a terminal still leaves something to attach to a bug report (#465).

CMYK images keep their ink amounts from PDF import (and from placed CMYK TIFFs) to PDF export: a CMYK JPEG passes through unchanged, others stay CMYK (DeviceCMYK, or ICC-based CMYK in PDF/X-3/X-4) unless the Output settings convert them; the canvas shows them through the working CMYK profile (#320).
- EPS and DXF in and out, EMF/WMF in and out; PNG (with PNG-8), JPEG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, Targa and layered PSD export. EPS import runs Illustrator's AGM/CoolType prologs (resource categories, `resourceforall`, `clipsave`/`cliprestore`, subarrays and substrings that share storage, the standard dictionaries in `systemdict`, `dictstack`, `internaldict`, executable filters, `cshow`, metadata skipped with `flushfile`), so Illustrator 30 EPS files open as vectors. It also runs what other generators write (Discord feedback, #466, #469): Illustrator 2026's procsets (`gcheck`, `rootfont`, `currentcolorrendering`: every Illustrator 2026 EPS fell back to its preview before), cairo/Inkscape (`status`/`flushfile`, images with a mask, `ImageType 3`, reusable streams), matplotlib's Type 3 fonts, Illustrator 8 EPS (stock art's usual format: executable strings such as its gradients' `ed`, `load` by integer keys, #474), Ghostscript's `//name` immediate names, `pdfmark`, `token`, `execform` and user paths. Tiling patterns come in as pattern swatches, uncoloured ones too; Type 3 fonts' glyphs as their outlines, spaced by `ashow`/`widthshow`/`xshow`/`kshow`; mesh and function-based shadings (types 1, 4–7) as gradient meshes; sampled functions (type 0) and Flate/LZW predictors are read. When a file's PostScript still can't be read, it opens as its TIFF preview, its Windows metafile preview (as vectors) or its EPSI preview, and the warning (in the status bar, `document.open`/`app.open`/MCP `open_file` replies and `vectorcraft-cli info`) names the error, the operator that raised it and the procedures it ran in. Legacy PostScript `.ai` files (Illustrator 3–8, written with the prolog that defines their operators) keep their groups and nested groups (`u` … `U`), between and inside clipping groups; EPS and EMF/WMF import nest clips (and groups) at most 128 deep, so a hostile file can't exhaust the stack. DXF TEXT justified Fit or Aligned spans its two points (stretched, or scaled as a whole).

- **Performance:** 20k shapes + 1k texts render in 27 ms per full-retina frame (7.8 ms zoomed), 7× faster than the first version. The UI thread never blocks. The web build is 7.1 MB gzipped.
- **Graphics processor:** the canvas is rasterized on the CPU and the GPU only composites it, so the desktop app asks for the power-saving GPU by default (the integrated one on hybrid-graphics laptops, where presenting from the discrete GPU made the window flicker, #306). Preferences › Performance › Graphics Processor (`gpuPreference`) or `WGPU_POWER_PREF` picks the discrete one; Help › About and `ui.inspect` name the adapter in use. When the browser drops the page's WebGPU device or WebGL context, the web build writes recovery copies, starts again on new graphics with the same app and uploads its textures again; if it can't, it removes the stale canvas and says to reload, which offers the copies back. The desktop app writes the copies and says to restart (#369). On Windows and Linux the tools' cursors are OS cursors (bitmaps rasterized once per display scale), which the system moves itself: painted into the window, they trailed the pointer by the frames waiting to be shown, and the window now queues one frame instead of two (#444). macOS and the web still paint them (macOS sizes cursor bitmaps in points, eframe has no bitmap cursors on the web). Pens and touch drive the tools as the mouse does, and a tap pressed and lifted within one frame clicks where it tapped (#491); pen pressure reaches the Liquify tools' Use Pressure Pen on Windows, while winit 0.30 reports none on macOS or Linux and egui none on the web. On Linux, see `docs/development.md` for pens under Wayland.
