Keep the font rescan off the filter label and off the UI thread.
The 180 px font menu pinned Rescan Fonts over "Variable fonts only", and the click walked every fontconfig directory on the frame thread. The button is now its own row, and the scan runs on a background thread that the frame polls. The Linux face-count assert is left to the native-fonts gate.
