i18n: Arabic interface with mirrored RTL shell (+ parity docs) (#5370)
* Arabic interface: mirrored right-to-left window and Arabic UI fonts Adds the Arabic (`ar`) interface language's code: its catalogs are craft-i18n's `locales/ar`, so this changes no catalog. - `ar` is registered in `i18n::LANGUAGES` and `Lang::rtl()` says it is written right to left; its translations are used as written (egui's text layout orders each line's bidi text itself). A ribbon location reads from the right with a leftwards mark. - `rtl.rs`: the window is mirrored. Containers open in `rtl::root`; columns, grids, checkboxes, radio buttons, menus, rows, panels, the dialog tab strip and the ribbon's scrolling row follow the language's direction. Title bar, status bar, ribbon tabs and groups, File pages (including Print, with the settings on the right and a solid scrollbar gutter), dialogs, menus and the task panes (their docking edge swaps) are laid out from the right. egui's `Grid` panics in a right-aligned layout, so grids go through `rtl::grid`. - Arabic UI font fallback: the craft-fonts Arabic face, else an installed Arabic font, loaded when the interface is Arabic. - The "Auto (200%)" size label keeps its percent sign inside the isolated number. - Tests: Arabic locale, saved preference and lookup order on fixture catalogs; an interface audit (skipped without the craft-i18n Arabic catalog) that lays the app out right to left at several widths, checks tab, group, pane, Print and Go To positions and that nothing panics. The Arabic work builds on Abdelhaq El Amraoui's mirrored-interface PR (#737). Co-Authored-By: Abdelhaq El Amraoui <abdelhaqelamraoui@gmail.com> Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Arabic interface: pin craft-i18n at a commit with the Arabic catalog; review fixes - craft-i18n.rev and the Flatpak manifest pin 19358491 (craft-i18n main), the first commit line that has locales/ar/wordcraft.tsv. The old pin had no Arabic catalog, so `ar` was registered but not embedded and two i18n tests (the_language_setting_is_a_ui_command_and_persists, the_languages_offered_are_the_embedded_ones_of_the_list) failed in CI. - The Arabic font fallback is requested for any right-to-left interface (`Lang::rtl()`), not only after the language picker sets the flag, so an automatic or saved Arabic gets the installed Arabic face. - The file browser, the update window and Reading Mode's toolbar run their bodies in `rtl::root`, so their far-side buttons and rows are mirrored. - A group in a right-to-left ribbon row is measured from the right edge: the cursor's left edge is negative infinity there, so its width was NaN and the ribbon planner dropped every group, never compacting a narrow Arabic window. A narrow window now folds groups into drop-downs. - The mirrored checkbox and radio marks are labelled by their text, so screen readers name them. - Tests: group width in a right-to-left row; the Arabic interface audit checks Reading Mode's toolbar. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Arabic interface: ask for the installed Arabic font separately from the CJK one A previous commit made every right-to-left interface request the installed CJK fallback font (`system_cjk`) so that the installed Arabic font would load. That also made every Arabic launch read a large system CJK font file when no craft-fonts input is embedded (the Flatpak build has none). `install_ui_fonts` now passes a separate `system_arabic` flag (`Lang::rtl()`): the installed Arabic font is read for it, and `system_cjk` is again set only by a CJK interface or by CJK text on screen. `WordApp::fonts_system_arabic` remembers what was installed, so a language change reinstalls the fonts. Tests: the_installed_arabic_font_is_asked_for_by_arabic_alone (the Arabic flag adds the installed font only when none is embedded, and the CJK request alone adds no Arabic font). Checked a headless screenshot of the Arabic interface without craft-fonts: the installed Arabic font draws the labels. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Fix the AutoSave switch knob: on is at the right, mirrored in Arabic The title bar's AutoSave knob was placed with `lead_x(rtl == on, ..)`, which reverses main's mapping in both directions: left to right it drew the knob at the left when the switch was on, and right to left at the right. main draws it at the right when on and at the left when off, so the mirrored interface must draw it at the left when on: `rtl != on`. The position is now `autosave_knob_x(rtl, on, track)`, pinned by a test for all four cases. A headless screenshot of the off switch shows the knob at the left in English and at the right in Arabic. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Arabic interface: file names and paths in right-to-left lines; kerning row order Tester feedback on the Arabic interface: - File > Open's Recent list, the built-in file browser and the title bar drew file names and paths raw, from the left edge. In an Arabic line the marks of a name ("(نهائي) 2.docx") and the folders of a path with Arabic parts were scrambled. Rows now start at the side reading starts from (`rtl::lead_x`), names go through `i18n::isolate` (a first-strong isolate, with a left-to-right mark before the extension so `2.docx` stays `2.docx`) and paths through `i18n::isolate_path` (a left-to-right isolate with a mark after every separator, so neighbouring Arabic folders do not swap). Other languages get the text untouched; saved and spoken text never carries the marks. - Font dialog, Kerning row: the dialog's grid is drawn left to right inside a right-to-left window, so "Points and above" came after its number; in an Arabic interface it now comes first, so the line reads "14 نقطة فأكثر" from the right. (The grid's columns themselves still keep their left-to-right order.) Tests: names_and_paths_are_isolated_in_a_right_to_left_interface. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Arabic interface: mirror through craft_ui::direction and Style::right_to_left The suite's craft-ui now has the direction helpers (`craft_ui::direction`) and its egui fork a `Style::right_to_left` that mirrors egui's own chrome. Use them instead of our parallel wrappers: - `rtl::sync(ctx)` applies the interface direction every frame the language's changes (`direction::apply`): it sets the shared direction state and `Style::right_to_left` on every theme, which draws check boxes and radio buttons with the mark at the reading start, mirrors submenus, scroll bars, title bars and the combo boxes' arrows (the Print page's choice lists, the font list) and opens combo menus from the right. - `rtl::checkbox`, `radio_value`, `radio` and `indeterminate_checkbox` are gone: about 200 call sites use plain `ui.checkbox`, `ui.radio_value`, ... and egui does the mirroring (and names the control by its text, as a plain widget). - `lead_x`, `lead_center`, `lead_top`, `start_panel` and `end_panel` delegate to `craft_ui::direction`. `root`, `flows`, `island`, `grid`, `menu`, `vertical`, `far_side` and the other layout helpers stay: the shared crate has no equivalent that fits them. Visual changes: the combo boxes' drop-down arrows and lists are mirrored in Arabic; nothing changes in left-to-right languages (checked headless screenshots of the English main window, Font dialog and Print page). Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Recent files and the file browser: full path on hover, long names keep their start Review feedback: - Each row of File > Open's Recent list shows the document's full path as its tooltip (the path line under the name can be longer than the row). - A long name in the built-in file browser is laid out in one row, with an ellipsis at its end, from the side reading starts from, instead of being clipped at the row's edge: in a right-to-left interface the old text anchored at the right edge cut the end of an Arabic name and the start of a Latin one. The whole name is the row's tooltip when it was shortened. Checked headless screenshots of the file browser with a long English and a long Arabic name. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Font combos in a right-to-left row: the arrow joins its field on the left The ribbon's font name and size boxes are drawn from a field and a separate arrow box that share one outline: the field is square and the arrow's box is rounded on the side where the arrow goes, painted a border width under the field. That assumed the arrow is right of the field. In a right-to-left row (the Arabic ribbon) the arrow comes after the field on its left, so the field was square on the wrong side and the arrow box rounded on the side facing the field: two boxes with a gap-like seam, the arrow looking outside the frame. `arrow_box_shape(rtl, ..)` mirrors the radii and the underlap, and the field's square corners are chosen by the row's direction (the nw/sw pair in right to left). Left-to-right rows are drawn exactly as before (English before/after crops are identical). Test: the_arrow_box_is_rounded_away_from_its_field. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Pin craft-i18n 4612850 (merged Arabic WordCraft rows, craft-i18n#76) The pin and the Flatpak manifest commit move from 1935849 to 4612850, which is on craft-i18n main and adds the 70 Arabic rows this branch relies on. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Pin craft-i18n cac2cf0 (Arabic number agreement and status-bar rows) Moves the pin and the Flatpak manifest commit from 4612850 to the current craft-i18n main, which includes craft-i18n#95 (48bed03) and #81 (ef58ff3). Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Arabic: isolate paths shown beside labels; mirror the Print page zoom File > Info shows Location as its own left-to-right path label (cut short with the full path on hover, not wrapped), and the open-failure, Exported and dictionary-file messages isolate their paths. The Print preview zoom puts minus at the slider's left end and plus at its right in Arabic, as the status bar does. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Arabic: mirror the label/field rows of the Font, Info, Paragraph, Page Setup, Insert Table and Options forms rtl::Table lays a form out as an egui Grid in a left-to-right interface (same id, columns and spacing, so the output is unchanged) and, where the interface is mirrored, with each row's cells running from the right, every column as wide as its widest cell. File > Info puts Properties at the right and Statistics after it, and the Font dialog's kerning row reads 14 points and above. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs: record Arabic mirrored interface landing (#1195) Update the language counts, Arabic parity row, gap #11, and UI/ROADMAP status so they match the craft-i18n catalog and mirrored shell already on this branch. * Fix Organizer Copy arrow in RTL and refresh roadmap status. Point the Copy glyph at the Document column when the shell is mirrored, and bump docs/roadmap.md status/revision history for Arabic UI (#1195). * fix(ui): keep pane dock left/right physical in RTL ui.paneDock and view.stylesPaneDock now store and report physical window sides; only unset defaults still open on the reading-start edge. Also wrap the language-packs grid for RTL, document the contract, and load a system Arabic face for Arabic names in LTR UIs. * docs: clarify mirrored default pane edges in RTL Start-default panes open on the physical right in Arabic; end-default panes open on the physical left — not every never-docked pane on the right. * refactor(ui): one PaneState for a saved pane place The four saved-dock arms built the same PaneState; only the place and whether it was set explicitly differ. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * style(ui): rustfmt the panes re-exports Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> --------- Co-authored-by: The Legend Of MTS Dev <tlo.mts.tsh@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Abdelhaq El Amraoui <abdelhaqelamraoui@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: email <email@email.com> Co-authored-by: FredApps <153173854+FredApps@users.noreply.github.com> |

CP4.3: review — a click from the control channel never turns on downloading; installs and refreshes run in the background in the app; parked documents proof again after a pack change
- Install, Show available languages and Refresh turn on the font store's downloading only on the person's own click (input_from_control, as in #959); a faked click says why instead. - proof.installPack and proof.packs {refresh} run on the engine's thread in the app ("started"), with progress, results and errors in proof.packs; the CLI and headless MCP stay synchronous. - A session's layout is keyed on the dictionaries' generation, so parked documents proof again. - proof.removePack refuses while that pack installs; pack commands that need a locale are left out of Search; options text names Refresh; licence tooltip says Source; errors go through tl!; the bar rescans at most once a second while typing; English names for every pack language and sr-latn; About has one Close button; xtask doc comment back on cmd_i18n_report. CP4.3: Language packs: proof.packs, proof.installPack, proof.removePack; Options › Language list, missing-pack bar, About › Language data
- engine `packs`: the packs Backend (the font store on the desktop and CLI, a fixed list in tests and ui_shot), the pinned index, installs and removals through craft-font-store's `language-pack` kind, craft-proof reading the store's `language-packs/` folder at once. Commands open nothing and never turn downloading on (only an Install click in the app does); confined automation can't write the packs folder outside its write root. - ui-egui `language_packs`: File › Options › Language › Language packs (name, size, licence, source, Install/Remove, progress, errors), the missing-pack bar (dismissible per document, never for a language without a pack), About › Language data (full licence texts). - CP4.4: `cargo xtask language` (in `ci`): the default build embeds only en-* Language data. - CP4.5: docs (help, MCP, control protocol, gaps #8, localization parity, roadmap). - Path deps to Lane 4's worktrees while developing. #3699: MCP bridge sends the control key only to 127.0.0.1, where the app listens
Audit finding 9 (CWE-522). The bridge sent the reusable control key to any loopback peer (127.0.0.0/8, ::1) and tried every address `localhost` resolved to, while the app binds only 127.0.0.1. Another local user could listen on ::1 or 127.0.0.2 and receive the key. Now `localhost` connects to 127.0.0.1 only, and the key goes only to a 127.0.0.1 peer. #3734: ui.resize refuses sizes that aren't positive and clamps to the GPU's limit (#3920)
* #3734: ui.resize refuses sizes that aren't positive and clamps to the GPU's limit The control channel forwarded any width/height to the viewport. Zero, negative and huge sizes now get an error or a size the window can have: the app's minimum and the largest texture the GPU draws (at most 16384 points). The reply carries the size asked for. * #3734: refuse non-finite sizes, and let the GPU limit win over the minimum Review follow-up: an infinite side (1e300 once read as f32) is refused rather than clamped, and a GPU limit below the app's minimum caps the size instead of being raised to it. |

W1: MCP, control channel and CLI address an open document by id
- MCP: execute, batch, type_text, select_text, get_text, inspect_document, render_page and save_document take an optional doc (an open document's id); the headless server runs them through Session::with_document and the bridge passes doc to the app. New list_documents tool; new_document replies with the new document's id. Tool descriptions and the server instructions say that file.new and file.open open another document. - Control channel: engine.execute, document.inspect and ui.render take doc and work on that document while the window keeps the active one; file.close on an addressed document refuses unsaved changes unless forced; ui.* commands need the document on screen. ui.inspect reports document and documents. Unknown or malformed ids are errors. - CLI run starts with one open document; help and docs describe how file.new, file.open and view.switchWindows work in a run. - docs/mcp.md and docs/control-protocol.md describe document ids and doc. |

Focus fills the screen; Full Screen View is a bindable command (#1678) (#1733)
* #1678: Focus fills the screen; Full Screen View is a bindable command View › Focus goes full screen with the document on black and a slim bar whose "⋯" drops the ribbon over the page. Full Screen View (view.fullScreenView, no default key; bind one in Customize Keyboard) shows the pages alone with the search box above them; the two turn each other off. Full Screen (view.fullScreen, F11, #980) keeps its whole-window behaviour. Escape leaves Focus or Full Screen View, then Full Screen, once nothing nearer takes it; the system leaving full screen ends all three. Ctrl+F1 collapses the ribbon (not on macOS). Immersive Reader no longer turns Focus on. The page widget keeps a fixed id so it keeps focus when the rulers hide. Fixes #1678 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * #1678: one Focus path after the rebase; pin the dropped ribbon staying down on a ribbon click main's Focus (#1017) consumed Escape in WordApp::ui before leave_full_screen, so Escape would leave Focus even when it should first collapse a selection or close a popup. That handler is removed: Focus, Full Screen View and Full Screen are left through leave_full_screen only. main's focus_hides_the_ribbon_and_escape_brings_it_back still pins the panes coming back. Full Screen View and Show the ribbon added to the hr, ko and sv catalogs, which main gained since. Ctrl+F1 sent as a key event collapses the ribbon when unbound, and runs the user's command when bound in the keymap, leaving the ribbon alone (not on macOS). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_013kKPnx8r1vcYumjyL3kcuz * #1678: review — a click on the dropped Focus ribbon gives the page the keyboard; only Ctrl+F1 yields to a binding The ribbon dropped over the page in Focus lies over the canvas viewport and in a Middle-order area, so refocus_after_chrome_click skipped clicks on it and typing went nowhere until the page was clicked (which also put the ribbon away). Clicks on the focus_ribbon layer now count as chrome. The Focus test asserts the page has the keyboard after a ribbon click and that typing reaches it with the ribbon still down. dispatch checks the keymap ahead of an interface shortcut only for Ctrl+F1; Alt+Q and Cmd+Option+R keep their place ahead of user bindings, as before #1678 (test: a_bound_alt_q_still_opens_command_search). Docs: control protocol's Methods table renders again
The engine.execute row listed the UI commands with unescaped "|" inside
code spans ("system"|"on"|"off", true|false, ...). GitHub-flavoured
Markdown splits table cells on every unescaped pipe, code spans
included, so the row came out as 32 cells in a 3-column table and was
cut off. A second, older engine.execute row duplicated it with a
shorter command list.
The two rows are now one: the current row, with ui.contextMenu (only in

#1945: Hide the Quick Access Toolbar and show it again (#2089)
The Quick Access Toolbar's menu ends with Hide Quick Access Toolbar, as Word's does. Show Quick Access Toolbar brings it back from the ribbon's right-click menu and from a check box on Customize Ribbon's Quick Access Toolbar page. The setting is kept between runs, and keytips skip the toolbar's digit badges while it is hidden. The UI command ui.quickAccessToolbar drives it from scripts and MCP. Regenerates docs/parity-checklist.md, which was behind the catalog. Adds my contributor entry. Co-authored-by: Brandon Thomas <echelon@gmail.com> |

File › Close closes the document and keeps the window (#1712) (#1996)
* File › Close closes the document and keeps the window (#1712) File › Close (Mod+W, Mod+F4) quit the whole app. In Word it closes the document and the window stays. WordCraft already has that state from the Start screen (#1129): no page, the ribbon greyed out but for Help, File › New and Open to go on. `WordApp::execute` now handles `file.close` itself. After the usual Save / Don't Save / Cancel, the document is replaced by the placeholder blank document that marks "no document open" and the Backstage closes. The window's close button passes `{"quit": true}`, so it still asks and then quits. The parameter travels with the prompt, so a Cancel leaves no state behind. With no document open, Close has nothing to close. Tests: the Close tests that used `quit_requested` as "Close went through" now check that the document closed and the window stayed. Closing from the empty window asks nothing, File › New goes on from there, and the window's close button still quits after Don't Save. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Close keeps the window for programmatic closes too (#1712, #1391) #1391 landed on main meanwhile: a programmatic `file.close` on unsaved work needs `{"force": true}`. Its tests, and the save prompt's focus test, took "Close went through" to mean `quit_requested`. With #1712 a close, forced or not, closes the document and keeps the window, so they now check that the document closed and the app is still running. The `force` guard itself is unchanged. docs/control-protocol.md: a closed document leaves the window open, and `file.new` or `file.open` goes on from there. Table style review follow-ups: No Border on inherited parts, cell Top beats the style (#1288) (#1296)
part that inherits its lines sends it, and the picker only shows No Border checked for it. - CellProps::valign is Option<VAlign>: a cell's own Top (Align Top, w:vAlign="top") beats a table style part's vertical alignment, and round-trips through .docx. - tableStyle edit rejects Part fields at the top level without "part". - "font": null or "" makes a part's font inherited; clearing the dialog's font box sends it. - Document ui.dialog's optional "part" in docs/control-protocol.md. wordcraft --control checks its port (#1426) (#1436)
* wordcraft --control checks its port (#1426) --control took whatever followed it as the port and dropped it when it didn't parse, so `--control --sample` lost --sample, `--control abc` started without the control channel, and a bad value cleared WORDCRAFT_CONTROL_PORT. A flag after --control is now left for the loop, and a missing, non-numeric, zero or out-of-range port prints an error naming it and exits with status 2, after the loop so --version still wins. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * wordcraft --control names any negative number it rejects (#1426) A value after --control counts as the port when it starts with a digit or a minus and a digit, so a negative too long for i64 is named in the error instead of left in the file list. NonZeroU16 replaces the separate zero check. A chosen interface size is absolute; Auto keeps the display scale (#822) (#1142)
* #822: a chosen interface size is absolute; Auto keeps the display scale On a display the system reports at 200 % (a bare window manager on X11, where winit guesses the scale from the monitor's DPI), "100%" drew at 200 %. As in PhotoCraft and PdfCraft (pdfcraft#1005), a chosen size now divides the display scale back out, so 100% is one screen pixel per point. The new default, Auto, keeps the display scale and its menu entry shows the size it draws at. Sizes run 75-300 %; ui.json moves to uiScale and migrates the old interfaceSize (100 -> Auto). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * #822: an old interface size becomes the size it drew at; a valid uiScale wins A pre-#822 interfaceSize was on top of the display scale, so it is kept until the first frame knows that scale and becomes old x native (125% on a 2x display stays at 250%). Note that on the web a chosen size cancels browser zoom. Shift+F10 opens the page's context menu at the caret (#821) (#920)
The right-click menu could only be opened with the mouse. Shift+F10, Windows' keyboard way to the context menu (the Menu key's equivalent), now opens the same menu just below the caret, with the spelling suggestions and synonyms for the word there; Escape closes it. ui.contextMenu opens it for scripts and agents. The Menu key itself still does nothing: egui-winit drops that key before the app sees it, so it needs an upstream change (or a winit hook) to reach the same path. i18n(hu): complete the Hungarian catalog again (#842)
* i18n: add Hungarian (hu) interface translation
- crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/hu.tsv: complete catalog, all 1,572 keys of
es.tsv in the same order, written clean-room from the plain meaning
of the English labels; placeholders, escapes and trailing ellipses
kept. Commands are nouns, messages use the informal second person,
and only the first word of a label is capitalised. A noun after a
number stays singular in Hungarian, so the context-free format needs
no plural forms.
- LANGUAGES gains `hu` (Magyar); `hu`, `hu-HU` and `hu_HU.UTF-8`
resolve to it.
- The Font dialog's preview sample is "AaBbYyZz ŐőŰű", so All Caps
shows the double acute capitals.
- Tests: locale resolution and saved preference, key parity with the
Spanish catalog, sample translations, count wording, the sample's
capitals and Hungarian letters in the bundled interface fonts.
- Docs: new localization-hu.md (conventions, terminology, scope);
README, ROADMAP, localization-parity and control-protocol list the
new language; ATTRIBUTION row for hu.tsv.
* i18n(hu): built-in style names, equation gallery and citation styles
- hu.tsv now carries every key of the Russian catalog: built-in style
names (Normal, No Spacing, Subtitle, TOC {n}…), the equation gallery
and structure labels, paper sizes, watermarks and the Backstage
greetings, plus the citation style names (1,946 entries).
- The interface audit (untranslated_interface_text) checks Hungarian
alongside Russian and reports every language's gaps in one run.
- Tests: Hungarian keys cover the Russian catalog; built-in style
names and numbered style templates show in Hungarian.
- Docs: entry counts and scope in localization-hu, localization-parity
and ROADMAP.
* Review fixes for #731: Hungarian stays a partial catalog
- The i18n audit requires completeness from Russian only again: hu.tsv lacks ~280 strings of the
dialogs that landed since (Compare Documents, Math AutoCorrect, …), so it can't claim to be
complete. The catalog test no longer asserts it holds every Russian/Spanish key.
- 43 Hungarian rows for tab and command labels that reached main since (charts, content controls,
Developer tab, templates and the styles organizer, WordArt), which every_tab_and_command_is_translated
requires.
- Docs say partial, with the entry count (1,989); localization-parity's header keeps its quote
marker and the #505 note.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Review fixes for #731: Hungarian rows for the Outlining tab
24 rows for Outline view's tab and commands, which landed on main meanwhile; 2,013 entries.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Review fixes for #731: ROADMAP header keeps main's SmartArt note
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* i18n(hu): complete the Hungarian catalog again
- hu.tsv: 374 new rows for the strings that reached main while #731 was
in review (Compare Documents, Restrict Editing, Math AutoCorrect,
charts, SmartArt, the Options sections, the print page and more).
The catalog now holds every key of ru.tsv again: 2,397 entries.
- The completeness checks are back: the interface audit requires
Hungarian alongside Russian, and the catalog test asserts hu.tsv holds
every key of ru.tsv and es.tsv. The docs describe a complete catalog.
- Seven review rows follow the catalog's existing patterns: Text Pane
(Szöveg panel, like the other panes), Design Mode (Tervezőmód, one
compound), Picture and Date Picker Content Control (clearer compounds),
Promote to Heading 1 / Demote to Body Text (style name after a colon,
no case ending) and Reset Graphic (Ábra visszaállítása, shorter).
* Hungarian: translate interface strings added on main since this PR
Adds the 10 strings main gained with Polish proofing (spelling and grammar
messages, Do Not Check Spelling or Grammar, comment/browse buttons), so
hu.tsv again covers every key of the other catalogs (2,419 entries), and
drops the stale "Wildcards (regex)" row; updates the documented counts.

Registered in LANGUAGES after Turkish. The locale-resolution tests that used fr-FR as the example of a language without a catalog now assert the French mapping and use Italian, which has no catalog, to keep testing the unsupported path. * i18n: complete the French catalog and apply review fixes Rebase onto main (1805 uk.tsv keys, up from 1812 rows at the original PR): 357 new translations for the charts, Draw, content controls, Caption/Index/TOC dialogs and formatting features that landed after the PR was opened. M15: Polish interface, and Polish spelling, grammar and hyphenation (#346)
* M15: Polish interface, and Polish spelling, grammar and hyphenation
Interface
- Polish is the tenth interface language ("Polski", pl.tsv, 1,045 entries);
pl, pl-PL and pl_PL.UTF-8 system locales select it automatically.
- Right-click menu labels now go through translation in every language.
- Review > Language is a menu (English US/UK, Polski, Do not check spelling
or grammar); the status bar shows the language at the caret.
- With a Polish interface, new blank documents and opened .txt/.md files
default to pl-PL.
Proofing
- Each run is checked in its own language (w:lang, resolved through
styles): squiggles, F7, review.issues, suggestions and hyphenation.
Text in languages without proofing tools is no longer flagged as English.
- Polish spelling from the SJP.PL Hunspell dictionary (Apache-2.0 option),
read by a new Rust affix engine (crates/proof/src/affix.rs); 875 KB asset,
~4.5M word forms. Regenerate with the pl_dictionary example.
- Polish suggestions: case, missing diacritics, rz/ż, ó/u, ch/h confusions,
missing spaces (napewno -> na pewno), edit distance.
- Conservative Polish grammar rules: repeated words, spacing, doubled
punctuation, sentence capitals, missing comma before że/który/ponieważ/
aby/żeby/jeśli…, we/ze forms.
- Polish hyphenation with the hyph-utf8 hyph-pl.tex patterns (MIT option);
pattern keys widened to 20 letters, TeX exceptions parsed; the heuristic
no longer treats ł, ż, ś… as vowels.
review.language validates and normalizes tags, can set noProof alone and
the document default; format.state reports lang and noProof.
Tests for every part, docs and ATTRIBUTION.md/NOTICE updated;
cargo xtask ci passes (fmt, clippy, test, assets, layers, wasm).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Layout: rustfmt the test module order left unformatted by #391
cargo fmt --check failed on main after #391 added mod tests_grid.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* Review fixes for #346: read Polish spelling from the installed Hunspell dictionary
- Polish spelling uses the Hunspell pl_PL dictionary installed on the
system (OS packages, Homebrew, LibreOffice, ~/.local/share/hunspell, or
WORDCRAFT_DICTIONARIES) instead of a bundled 870 KB SJP.PL file;
without one, Polish text gets no spelling marks, like Word without the
language's proofing tools. .aff/.dic are size-capped and decoded from
UTF-8 or ISO 8859-2 (crates/proof/src/hunspell.rs).
- The dictionary can be replaced at runtime (install_dictionary) or
re-searched (reload_dictionary); an empty one accepts every word.
- Tests use small synthetic dictionaries written for them, so they don't
depend on what the machine has installed.
- The bundled pl.dic, its ATTRIBUTION/NOTICE entries and the generator
example are removed; docs describe the installed dictionary.

Accessibility Options: Animation effects setting that follows the system (#791)
* Options: Animation effects setting that follows the system The app eased wheel scrolling, Ctrl+wheel zoom and its fades whatever the system's animation setting was: with Windows' Animation effects off, the page still smooth-scrolled. File > Options > Accessibility > Animation effects: Use system setting (the default), On or Off; `ui.animations` for agents; kept in ui.json. - Off: a wheel notch scrolls the page its whole distance at once, egui's own scroll areas get the notch whole instead of eased in, Ctrl+wheel zoom steps at once, and egui's fades and scroll-to glides are off. Touchpad momentum and the caret blink are unchanged. - Use system setting asks the host (`Services::animations_enabled`) at start-up and when the window regains focus. Windows: the Windows Runtime's UISettings, a safe API of the `windows` crate already in the build. Web: `prefers-reduced-motion`. macOS and Linux/BSD aren't read yet (docs/gaps.md); there it means on. - The eight new strings are in all eleven interface catalogs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Animation effects off: zoom steps land finished in one frame Follow-up to the Animation effects setting: zooming could still look animated with the setting off. - Ctrl+wheel zooms in whole steps, each at once. A mouse-wheel notch is two steps in its frame, the same zoom as before. Turns that arrive in small pieces (a touchpad pinch that Windows reports as Ctrl+wheel, a high-resolution or free-spinning wheel) add up to a step of about 10% first, where each piece used to zoom a little and the zoom glided. - A page re-rendered for a zoom step is drawn on the pixel grid in that frame. It used to be drawn off the grid, slightly soft, and snap sharp a frame later. - The frame a zoom changes in asks for the next one at once, so the status bar's percentage and slider follow in the next frame. They could lag until the caret's next blink, up to half a second. The last two apply whatever the setting. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Animation effects: follow the system's setting on macOS, Linux and the BSDs "Use system setting" only read Windows and the browser; elsewhere it meant on. - macOS: System Settings > Accessibility > Display > Reduce motion, through NSWorkspace (a safe call in objc2-app-kit 0.3, already in the build). - Linux and the BSDs: the XDG settings portal over D-Bus (zbus, already in the build through AccessKit). Three settings say whether animations play, and any one saying no turns them off: the cross-desktop reduced-motion preference, GNOME's enable-animations and KDE Plasma's animation speed. A thread reads them at start-up and follows the portal's change signal. Where no portal answers, or it knows none of them, KDE's kdeglobals and GTK's settings.ini are read instead. - The UI now asks the host every frame instead of at start-up and on focus, so a change in the system's settings is followed while the app runs. Hosts answer from memory: Windows and macOS are asked again at most once a second, the web keeps its media query, and Linux/BSD is kept current by its thread. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Animation setting on Linux: ask every setting again when one changes KDE's portal announces a new animation speed only as the cross-desktop reduced-motion preference, not under its own kdeglobals name. Keeping each setting's last announced value left KDE's own one stale: after going from instant back to normal speed, animations stayed off. Every setting is now read afresh on any relevant change, and the settings files' answer stands whenever the portal has none. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Caret glide follows Animation effects; its canvas test turns the setting off, then on --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Brandon Thomas <echelon@gmail.com> |

Linux: open/save works without a portal file dialog (#576) (#583)
* Linux: built-in file browser when the portal file dialog is unavailable (#576) rfd 0.17 on Linux/BSD asks the xdg-desktop-portal FileChooser and falls back to zenity; with neither (labwc with only xdg-desktop-portal-wlr, no zenity) it returns None, the same as Cancel, so Open/Save As/Insert Picture silently did nothing. The dialog thread now checks first (zenity on PATH, or the portal's FileChooser interface via dbus-send) and answers with an error when neither is there; the app then finishes the job in its own egui file browser (folder field, Up/Home, folders and files of the chosen type, file name, type filter, replace confirmation) with a hint on how to get the system dialog. File > Open > Browse in WordCraft... (Linux/BSD) and `ui.fileBrowser` reach it at any time, even while a system dialog never showed up; WORDCRAFT_FILE_DIALOG=builtin forces it. Native only (not wasm32). Caret: glide and fade like Word for Windows; File › Options › Advanced › Animation turns it off (#570)
* Add arcanii to the contributor names Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Caret: glide and fade like Word for Windows; File › Options › Animation turns it off The caret no longer jumps and switches on and off. A key or typing glides it to its new place in 100 ms along cubic-bezier(0, 0, 0, 1), the same for one character and for a whole line; a second key before it arrives makes it snap to where it was heading and set off from there. Clicks, and moves made by scripts or the control channel, don't glide. The blink is a pair of 100 ms fades (530 ms on, 530 ms off), and a key or a click turns the caret on from however visible it was. These are Word for Windows' numbers (16.0.20326, 100% zoom, 144 Hz), measured black-box: a synthetic document in a separate Word instance, its window captured frame by frame while key and mouse messages moved the caret. Fourteen consecutive frames match the curve to 0.003. Word for Mac was not measured. Nothing glides when the view changed (zoom, a resized window, scrolling, another document), when the caret wasn't drawn the frame before, or when a move starts or ends off screen. File › Options › Animation › "Animate the caret (it glides and fades)" turns it off: ui.caretAnimation {"value"} for agents, kept in ui.json, on by default, translated in the nine catalogs. Off, and whenever egui's animations are off (the headless harness, so ui_shot and scripted screenshots), the caret jumps and blinks exactly as before. Security: pictures travel in the reply, exported links keep only safe targets (#678, #679) (#681)
- `ui.render` and `ui.screenshot` without a `path` return the PNG as base64 `png` in the reply instead of writing a fixed name into the shared temporary folder, where another user could have planted a link to one of this user's files; the MCP bridge's `render_page` and `screenshot` use that and no longer round-trip through `temp_dir()/wordcraft-mcp-*.png`. A given `path` still works as before (#678). - One allow-list, `wordcraft_doc::link`: `is_web_or_mail_link` for Ctrl/⌘-click and `is_safe_href` (web, mail, `#bookmark`, relative path; schemes read the way browsers do, so `java\nscript:` is a script) for the HTML and Markdown exporters and the HTML importer. Scripts and other schemes export as plain text (#679). - Tests: the allow-list, exporters with hostile links, the MCP bridge against a fake app (no `path` ever asked for), the control channel's in-reply PNGs. i18n: add Russian (ru) interface translation (#300)
* I18N.et: add Estonian interface translation * I18N.et: record the verified headless fork push step * i18n: send interface text that skipped translation through the catalog A test-only pseudo-language wraps every catalog lookup in ⟦…⟧ marks; a new audit test lays the app out in it (every tab, File page, dialog and pane, the right-click menu, and a hover and a click on every ribbon control, including the Table and Equation tabs) and fails on any visible text outside the marks. The document is drawn as an image, so only interface text is checked; document text, font and style names, shortcuts, icon lettering, contributor handles and command error messages are allowed. What it found, now translated in every language that has the strings: - Right-click menu items (Cut, Paste, Font…, Paragraph…, Link…, New Comment). - Paragraph dialog: the alignment choices showed code values (`left`); the label now sits before the dropdown. - Table Design › Table Style Options checkboxes. - Table Layout › Alignment tooltips showed code values (`topLeft`). - Design › Fonts: the theme's name is translated, its font names are not. - `pt` units, the Insert › Table grid label, the default watermark text, the font dialog's preview sample, and the untitled document's name. - Contributors and Models dialogs: headings, sort and name choices, summary. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01WtHKQ7wrZm3uBuaG1Ye8po * i18n: add Russian (ru) interface translation - ru.tsv: 1,068 entries covering every interface string, written clean-room from the English labels and reviewed by a native speaker. `ru`, `ru-RU`, `ru_RU.UTF-8` and other regions resolve to it; File > Options picks it by hand. - Built-in style names (Normal, Heading 2, TOC 3, Strong…) show in the interface language in the Styles gallery, the Styles pane and the Style Inspector. Display only: documents, commands and saved files keep the English names, and styles the author made keep theirs. - Rendered previews use the interface language: the Styles gallery samples (`АаБбВвГг`) and the Design tab's style-set tiles. - Catalogs gain a `preview` context for sample text that must fit a small tile (`Title` is «Заголовок» as a style but «Пример» in the tiles); it falls back to the plain entry, and unknown contexts are still rejected. - Tests: locale detection and saved preference, full coverage, Cyrillic glyphs in the bundled interface fonts, style-name display, catalog contexts. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * i18n(ru): translate everything the interface audit finds Adds 356 Russian entries: the equation gallery (categories, templates and built-in equations), equation options, themes, watermark presets, paper sizes, table styles, greetings, outline levels, the strings #313 routes through the catalog, and the new AutoSave messages. The two rows #305 made obsolete (📂 Browse…, ➕ New comment) are gone. The interface audit now also fails when a string it sees translated has no Russian entry, so Russian stays complete as the interface grows. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01WtHKQ7wrZm3uBuaG1Ye8po * Draw Table and Eraser: draw tables and split or merge cells with a pen (#303) Insert › Tables › Draw Table and Table Layout › Draw › Draw Table / Eraser. table.draw takes a pen stroke in page points: a rectangle outside a table inserts a one-cell table of that size at the paragraph under its start; a straight vertical or horizontal line inside a table splits the cells it crosses (new grid column or row; untouched cells span it). table.eraser merges the two cells beside the border nearest a point. Each stroke is one undo step. In the app the buttons toggle pen and eraser modes with a live preview, a crosshair with the tool's icon, and Esc to stop; canvas clicks don't move the caret while a tool is on. Splitting through part of a vertically merged cell and erasing beside one are refused with a clear error. Catalog 384/430 -> 387/430. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * Draw tab: pen, pencil and highlighter ink, stroke eraser and Hide Ink (#307) Ink strokes are floating freeform shapes: a new Freeform geometry (paths in shape-local coordinates, opacity, and the pen that drew it) on InlineObject::Shape with ShapeKind::Freeform. draw.stroke inserts one anchored to the paragraph under the first point (one undo step; points capped per stroke, strokes capped per page, NaN dropped); draw.erase / draw.eraser with a point deletes the stroke under it; draw.pen, draw.pencil, draw.highlighter, draw.eraser and draw.select set the Draw tab's tool in the session view state; review.hideInk toggles showing ink on screen. The canvas draws a live stroke while a pen is dragged and commits it on release; the eraser deletes strokes it passes over (one undo step per drag); Esc or Select goes back to selecting. Draw tab buttons show the tool in use, with colour and thickness menus; Review gets an Ink group with Hide Ink. Ink renders with round caps and joins on screen and in PDF; highlighters are translucent and behind the text. DOCX writes freeforms as wps:wsp with a:custGeom (moveTo/lnTo) in a wp:anchor and reads them back, along with simple custom-geometry freeforms from other files. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * #315 review fixes: eraser undo test, sanitized tap dots, custGeom path cap, ink docs - draw.eraser with a point erases through draw.erase: test that it is one undo step (undo/redo) and marks the document dirty. - Render and PDF: a single-point stroke's dot is drawn at the sanitized point, not the raw first one. - DOCX custGeom reading stops once MAX_PATHS paths (subpaths included) are collected, across a:path elements. - docs/file-format-parity.md: ink is saved as custom geometry, not InkML, so Word shows it as a freeform. - widgets test: theme::apply takes an Appearance (#317). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * i18n: send interface text that skipped translation through the catalog A test-only pseudo-language wraps every catalog lookup in ⟦…⟧ marks; a new audit test lays the app out in it (every tab, File page, dialog and pane, the right-click menu, and a hover and a click on every ribbon control, including the Table and Equation tabs) and fails on any visible text outside the marks. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01WtHKQ7wrZm3uBuaG1Ye8po * i18n audit: start every ribbon click from a fresh app; translate the table style preview The sweep pressed Escape after each click, and in an equation Escape leaves it, so the Equation tab vanished after its first control and the rest of its menus (Convert, Justification, …) were never opened. Each control now gets a fresh app set up the same way. The narrower allowance for short text (only icon lettering and initials) also catches short words. It found the sample table in the Table Style dialog (Mon, Tue, North, Total, …), now translated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01WtHKQ7wrZm3uBuaG1Ye8po * #313: catalog rows for the newly translated interface text Rows in all eight catalogs for the strings #313 now sends through the catalog (cell alignment tooltips, credits columns and summary, theme names, context-menu items, table picker, pt suffix, Document1, the Font dialog sample) and for the Table Style preview's sample table, which the untranslated-text audit flagged after main's table style editor landed. The audit runs headless (no host services: no file pickers or speech) in about 20 s, so it stays enabled. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * i18n audit: click the ribbon's bottom row too The sweep only clicked controls centred between y = 52 and 125, which took in the tab row and left out each group's bottom row (Equation › Convert and Justification among them). The band is now taken from the layout: below the tab row and above the document area. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01WtHKQ7wrZm3uBuaG1Ye8po * i18n audit: lay the app out wide enough that no ribbon tab overflows At 1440 pt the Equation tab ran past the window, so its last controls (Justification among them) sat behind the ribbon's scroll arrow and were never clicked. The audit window is now 2560 pt wide. i18n: add Turkish (tr) interface translation (#494)
* chore(lints): satisfy nonminimal_bool on Rust 1.96 Clippy Four boolean expressions rewritten into their equivalent minimal forms (De Morgan / is_none_or) so `cargo xtask ci` passes `clippy -D warnings` on current stable. No behaviour change. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * i18n(tr): Turkish interface (Türkçe) - crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/tr.tsv: complete catalog, all 1,307 keys of es.tsv, written clean-room from the plain meaning of the English labels; placeholders, escapes and "…" kept. A noun after a number stays singular in Turkish, so the context-free format needs no plural forms. - Registry entry `tr` / "Türkçe": tr-TR, tr-CY and tr_*.UTF-8 locales resolve by the generic prefix match; saved preference and English fallback use the existing machinery. - Command search folds case the Turkish way (İ→i, I→ı) for translated labels and locations, while English labels and ASCII command ids keep their existing Unicode case-insensitive matching ("italik" finds "İtalik", "INSERT.TABLE" still finds insert.table). - The Font dialog's preview sample is "AaBbYyZz ĞğİıŞş": it has no lowercase i, so the All Caps preview (to_uppercase) gets the Turkish capitals right. - Tests: catalog key and placeholder parity, locale resolution, saved preference, Turkish folding, the sample's capitals, a real egui command-dialog regression, and ÇçĞğİıÖöŞşÜü in the bundled UI fonts. - Docs: README, ROADMAP, localization-parity, control-protocol, new localization-tr.md (terminology, scope); ATTRIBUTION row for tr.tsv. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(paste): an absolute picture path that is absolute on Windows too `/tmp/b.JPG` has no drive, so `Path::is_absolute` is false on Windows and `paste_inserts_clipboard_pixels` failed there; the test uses `C:\tmp\b.JPG` on Windows. Test-only. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Co-authored-by: Brandon Thomas <echelon@gmail.com> |

Options: interface size setting (#475) (#480)
File › Options › General gets an Interface size choice (80–200 %), kept in
ui.json and applied as egui's zoom factor, so it multiplies the display
scale the system reports instead of replacing it. Junk saved values read
as 100 % and out-of-range ones are clamped. Agents use ui.interfaceSize
{"percent"}. Document zoom (view.zoom) is untouched; egui's keyboard zoom
stays off, so Word shortcuts never change the interface size.
