- ui.json / prefs.json are read through a new settings module: regular files only, 4 MiB
cap, parse errors logged, values sanitized (a saved zoom of 1e30 aborted start-up,
1e4 panicked in egui); writes are atomic.
- The canvas and the control protocol clamp stray zooms; the status bar shows the zoom in use.
- The canvas texture is cut to the GPU's max texture side (zoom 400% on a 2048 limit panicked).
- The system font scan opens only regular files of sane size (a FIFO named *.ttf in ~/.fonts
hung start-up), with depth and entry caps.
- AutoRecover skips non-regular entries and reopens at most 32 per start, newest first.

The start screen reported errors through set_status, but the status bar
is only drawn while a presentation is open: clicking a Recent entry
whose file had moved or been deleted did nothing visible, and the same
went for every other start-screen error, like a failed sample open.
The start screen now draws the transient status message itself: a real
label, so screen readers see it too, wrapped so a long OS error does
not clip at the panel edge. Recent entries whose file no longer exists
are dimmed with a "(missing)" mark before anything is clicked, each
entry has a remove button, and a successful open clears a stale error.
Existence is probed once per path per session; a stat on a dead network
share can block for the OS timeout, so UNC paths and URLs are never
probed and are judged when opened instead.
The remove button is a plain multiplication sign: U+2715 has no glyph
in the UI font stack and egui would draw the replacement character.
Tests: the missing mark and the drawn error (kittest, clicked through
the real UI), removal from the list, and the negative case - an
existing file is not marked.
* Text: input method composition as commands, one undo step per composition (#101)
text.compose shows an input method's preedit in place at the insertion point and replaces it on
each update; an empty preedit cancels and restores the text and selection. text.commit replaces
the composition with the result as one undo step. Any other edit, key or click settles an open
composition first. The composition is underlined under the baseline (thicker under the part being
converted), and the caret line is measured for empty placeholders too.

* UI: Korean, Japanese and Chinese input and interface text (#101)
The slide turns the input method on while it takes typing, with the candidate window at the
caret, and forwards egui Ime events to text.compose / text.commit, so a Korean keyboard composes
syllables instead of separate jamo. Interface text in scripts the interface fonts lack (Hangul,
Simplified Chinese, Thai...) borrows faces from the font database (installed fonts such as Malgun
Gothic; nothing bundled): file names, titles, notes, outline, sections, comments and typed text.
Ported and widened from WordCraft's #565/#840 fallback. The notes pane keeps text typed before
focus leaves in the same frame (Escape, another slide). Control channel: ui.ime.

Long speaker notes grew out of the notes pane and over the slide: the
editor now scrolls inside the pane. In Presenter View the Previous, Next
and End Show buttons drew dark text on the dark window, so they looked
missing; they are now light on a visible fill, and the timer gets Pause /
Resume and Reset.

Notes from a .pptx were read and written with their formatting, but the notes pane and Notes
Page drew them as plain text (Slide::notes_text in a plain TextEdit), and any edit there saved
the text back through slide.notes as TextBody::from_text, dropping every bold run, level,
indent and bullet of the slide's notes.
- ui-egui: a notes editor (notes.rs) shared by the notes pane and Notes Page. It draws bold,
italic, underline, strikethrough and size from the runs, and each paragraph's margin, hanging
indent and bullet or number (Wingdings/Symbol bullets mapped as on slides); paragraphs are
laid out one by one so wrapped lines align with the text, not the bullet. Each edit is applied
to a formatted draft, so typed text takes the formatting where it lands (Enter in a bulleted
point starts another), and the draft is saved once the field loses focus or the slide changes.
- engine: slide.notes takes `body` (formatted notes, as slide.inspect's new `notesBody`), and
`text` now changes only what was retyped (model edit::replace_text); text sharing nothing
with the old notes is still plain.
- text: map_symbol_bullet is public for the notes editor.
PDF notes pages still print the notes as plain text.
